Pacifico Yokohama, Japan
Under its theme “Africa and Yokohama, Sharing Passion for the Future”, the City of Yokohama is already setting the stage for welcoming the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) to its shores again between 28-30 August 2019. More than 4,000 Heads of state and government, as well as representatives of International and regional organizations, civil societies, NGOs, and the private sector are expected to participate at this year’s conference.
In close cooperation with TICAD, IDDA III initiative and UNIDO’s ISID mandate, this year’s event will tackle the essential aspects of economic transformation and industrialization, crucial for Africa’s sustainable growth. The conference will specifically focus on economic transformation and improvements in business environment and institution through private investment and innovation; promotion of a resilient and sustainable society; as well as peace and stability as support for Africa’s own proactive efforts.
With business and investment as important agenda items of TICAD, Japan and UNIDO’s substantial contribution to TICAD7 reinforces their common commitment for Africa’s development.
Through its over 25 years of history, TICAD has evolved into a major open and inclusive framework for mobilizing and sustaining international support for Africa’s development. Based on its experience, Japan is a valuable partner of UNIDO as it supports the Organization’s mandate of inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), and is moreover consistently one of the largest contributors to UNIDO- both through its assessed contributions and through regular voluntary contributions to technical cooperation programmes and projects, such as enabling human security, developing climate-resilient industries and fostering sustainable energy solutions in Africa.
