The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting the implementation and achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At the same time the pandemic serves as a strong wake-up call for the international community to build a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable future as summarised under the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Achievement of the SDGs in a post-pandemic world will require a holistic approach, including strong commitments towards promotion of structural changes across all sectors of society. In this context, inclusive and sustainable industrial development, which is at the core of SDG-9, is expected to play a critical role in overcoming the crisis and setting countries back on the path of growth and development.
- - How can inclusive and sustainable industrial development support recovery and accelerate the transformation towards achieving the SDGs?
- - What should countries consider in their approach to reaching the SDG targets?
- - How do we monitor and assess progress in view of the challenges the world is facing right now?
Those are some of the key questions to be discussed at the online event organised by UNIDO in cooperation with the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The event will feature keynote remarks as well as a high-level panel discussion on the subject topic. UNIDO will also use the occasion to showcase its latest online data tool, the SDG-9 Industry Tracker, which is part of the newly launched UNIDO Industrial Analytics Platform (IAP).
The SDG-9 Industry Tracker helps monitors countries’ performance and progress towards SDG-9 industry related targets and provides in-depth analytical insights and commentary in relation to indicator based dimensions of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. The IAP and its data tools are part of UNIDO’s contribution towards supporting the UN wide efforts in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Join our online discussion to find out how the SDGs provide a comprehensive framework for recovery, and why it is vital to monitor and assess the progress towards making Agenda 2030 a reality.
You will have the opportunity to engage and interact with our speakers, and share your questions and opinions as the debate progresses.
