Accelerating climate action through urban innovation: UNIDO’s Bridge for Cities, 4-5 September 2023

09 August 2023

Bridge for cities event

VIENNA – The eighth edition of UNIDO’s annual Bridge for Cities event will take place on 4 and 5 September at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) headquarters in Vienna. The event, comprising a two-day-forum and a week-long exhibition, is organized with financial support from the Government of China, and, this year, in collaboration with the City of Vienna, AIG, University of Strathclyde, UN-Habitat, and Chatham House.

Bridge for Cities 2023 will bring together representatives from municipal governments, development finance institutions, non-governmental organizations, the business sector, chambers of commerce, international organizations, academia, and leading urban experts. A variety  of activities have been designed to spark ideas, foster dialogues, and forge partnerships.

The event comes at a time when over 50% of the global population resides in urban areas. Cities also contribute to 80% of global GDP, consume two-thirds of global energy, and generate more than 70% of annual global carbon emissions, according to UN-Habitat and the International Energy Agency. Climate action in cities is essential for achieving ambitious net-zero emissions goals.
