He congratulated UNEP for making history with its Member State agreement to start negotiations on an international, legally binding instrument on plastic pollution. The two discussed UNIDO-UNEP collaboration and ways to work more closely together, particularly on green energy, circular economy, the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) programmes, and chemicals and waste conventions.

They also discussed the forthcoming Stockholm+50 event, organized by UNEP to commemorate the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and celebrate 50 years of global environmental action.

UNIDO and UNEP jointly manage the Secretariat for the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), a body of the UNFCCC, based in Copenhagen. CTCN provides technical assistance and advice for member states in implementing the climate framework convention.
