Huawei and UNIDO reinforce cooperation to propel AI in industry and manufacturing

Fenyeslitke, Hungary - June 15, 2023 Huawei and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) have announced their strengthened collaboration in establishing the Global Alliance on Artificial Intelligence for Industry and Manufacturing (AIM-Global) at the Intelligent Rail & Logistics Forum, underscoring the potential of AI to revolutionize industries through sustainable and ethical adoption.

In his video message, Ciyong Zou, Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director of UNIDO, emphasized the indispensable role of both physical and digital connections in today's world. He highlighted the remarkable benefits arising from the convergence of 5G, AI, and cloud computing, particularly within the transport and logistics sectors. The establishment of AIM-Global will contribute to the endeavour of harnessing the power of AI as a pivotal technology to bridge logistics gaps, while the advent of 5G will enable connectivity even in remote areas, essential for successful digital transformation.

Radoslaw Kedzia, Vice President of Huawei Europe, affirmed that industry players are jointly leveraging next-generation digital technologies like 5G and AI to address common challenges, drive digital transformation, and generate significant social value. This collaboration marks a substantial leap forward for the entire sector.

AIM-Global reflects UNIDO's commitment to adopting multi-stakeholder approaches necessary for progress through innovation, empowered by state-of-the-art technologies. By partnering with Huawei and other global leaders in the field of AI, AIM-Global will serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the showcasing of best practices. It will empower developing countries to harness the power of AI while advancing the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Agenda.

The Global Alliance on Artificial Intelligence for Industry and Manufacturing (AIM-Global) will be officially launched on 6 July 2023, during the International Forum on AI for Industry and Manufacturing organized as part of the World AI Conference (WAIC) 2023 in Shanghai, China. This groundbreaking initiative seeks to promote the responsible, sustainable, and inclusive use of AI in the industrial sector, in alignment with the UN Secretary-General's call to establish a Global Digital Compact, ensuring shared principles for an open, free, and secure digital future for all.
