Online Training Courses

VIENNA, 22 October 2019 – On the occasion of UNIDO’s 18th General Conference, “Industry 2030-Innovate. Connect. Transform our Future”, the Department of Trade, Investment and Innovation (TII) is launching two online training courses: “Industry 4.0” and “International Business Alliances”.

The aim of the Industry 4.0 online training is to provide a strong foundation on Industry 4.0 and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. New technologies are constantly shaping the ways in which we work and live. Effectively managed, they can create new pathways towards prosperity. The online training demonstrates the implications for developing countries, particularly least developed countries (LDCs), outlines related challenges they face in the context of Industry 4.0, and at the same time, the opportunities that it also provides, and how best they can be leveraged upon. The online course is comprised of six training modules, which have been designed in such a way that governance, institutions, policymakers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individuals can benefit from the content.

The aim of the International Business Alliances online training is to increase the understanding of the expansion strategies and behavior of multinational enterprises (MNEs), and to show how enterprises in developing countries can take advantage of opportunities provided by MNEs in order to move higher in the supply and value chains. Comprised of four training modules, the online course starts by providing a broad overview of the international development scenario, and the challenges and opportunities for developing countries. It then discusses business alliances and their distinctive features, followed by the process of implementing joint ventures. Finally, business negotiations and contracting for successful business alliances are also discussed. This training is open to policymakers, staff of investment promotion institutions and managers of enterprises in developing countries.

Both training courses will be hosted on the TII Knowledge Hub, which serves as a training and knowledge-sharing platform, offers a range of interactive web tools, and features latest news and upcoming events in trade, investment and innovation.
