About

Albert Muchanga serves as the African Union Commissioner for Trade and Industry. Prior to joining the African Union, he held various positions, including with the Zambian Civil Service at home and as Deputy Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community abroad.

As African Union Commissioner for Trade and Industry, he spearheaded the Union’s efforts in driving the negotiations, conclusion and ratification of the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which entered into force on 30 May 2019, and was successfully launched in July 2019.
