Tanzania: Sustainable Industrial Development and Competitiveness
Title | Tanzania: Sustainable Industrial Development and Competitiveness |
Abstract | Objective of the present development program is to strengthen the capacity and capabilities of the government and the private sector for the implementation of the Sustainable Industrial Development Policy (SIDP). Starting point of the analytical process is the existing SIDP. It is to be achieved within the framework of increased market orientation and private sector led industrial development. Constraints are reviewed as well as issues of concern to the private sector and institutional weaknesses. By competitiveness of industry one is referring to the ability of Tanzania's industry to meet and beat relevant competition in the international and regional markets for selected products. The competitiveness analysis draws from the following sources: 1) competitiveness survey of over 40 companies representing major manufacturing sectors, 2) investor survey focusing on the operating environment and processes for foreign investment, and 3) analysis of the privatization process. The results of the survey were used to construct the competitiveness platform based primarily on the Porter Diamond. |
