The General Conference is the highest policymaking organ of UNIDO. The twentieth session of the General Conference (GC.20) will be held from 27 November to 1 December 2023. It will be hosted in the UNIDO headquarters in Vienna as a hybrid event, involving both in-person and virtual participation.

Looking at the wide-ranging consequences of ongoing and emerging global crises, marked by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and armed conflict, UNIDO’s mandate has grown in relevance to help build resilience and strengthen the foundations for sustainable economic growth. Under the overarching theme “Fair Globalization: Innovative Solutions for the Industry of Tomorrow”, the GC.20 will reflect these transformative developments and aims to forge new pathways to sustainability, digital inclusivity and economic resilience. Particular emphasis will be given to how inclusive and sustainable industrial development can support sustainable supply chains, limit the climate breakdown and contribute to ending hunger. The Conference serves a unique platform to take stock of progress made towards the achievement of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Moreover, it provides an opportunity for Member States to provide strategic guidance on the future of our Organization, while also offering a forum for knowledge sharing and the fostering of industrial cooperation.
