UNIDO and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt to do joint technical assistance, research and advocacy

VIENNA, 30 November 2011 - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Germany’s Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) envisage going beyond cooperation in trade-related technical assistance by also cooperationg on research and advocacy-related activities.

This was agreed on today during a meeting between UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella, and Joern Stenger, Member of the Presidential Board of PTB.

PTB is the national metrology institute of Germany. It provides internationally recognized measurement standards to its customers in trade and industry, science and society. PTB also offers technical assistance in the area of quality infrastructure to developing countries, an area that UNIDO is also involved in as part of its focus on trade capacity-building.

Joern Stenger said he was confident that PTB’s cooperation with UNIDO would prove to be mutually beneficial.
