UNIDO DG visit to South Africa
UNIDO Director-General Mr. Kandeh K. Yumkella was invited to meet with South African President Thabo Mbeki on 7 August 2008
UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella visited the UNIDO Regional Office in South Africa between 4 and 7 August 2008. During his visit the DG met with South African President Thabo Mbeki, the country’s Minister of Trade and Industry and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as with Microsoft’s Chairman for Africa. The DG also travelled to neighbouring African country Namibia for bilateral meetings with Namibian officials and attended the opening of the Third International Ministerial Conference on the State of Middle Income Countries.
During his recent visit to the UNIDO Regional Office in South Africa, UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella met with South African President Thabo Mbeki. Issues under discussion included the outcome of the January 2008 African Union Summit and preparations for the Conference of African Ministers of Industry, which will be held in October 2008 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
