The abolition of the Multi-Fibre Arrangement and growing challenges of international competition obliges the local clothing industry to provide more efficient production systems. The clothing sector in Sri Lanka has to improve its quality, safety and environmental standards. In order to respond to rapid changes in technologies, fashion trends and consumer preferences, effective service delivery is equally important.
UNIDO assists in establishing training and service centres for the local textile sector. The newly established service centres issue reliable test certificates, mandatory to participate in international trade.
