PRAIA, Cape Verde, 6 July 2010 – A new regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) opened in Praia today.

It will help develop renewable energy and energy efficiency markets in West Africa, in policy and capacity development and quality assurance, in designing financing mechanisms, and implementing demonstration projects with potential for regional scaling-up.

ASTANA, 2 July 2010 – The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, urged Kazakhstan today to raise energy efficiency and develop renewable energy sources as a way to de-carbonize the power sector and address climate issues.     

MOSCOW, 2 July 2010 – Ways to further expand and enhance the industrial integration of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) and link them with UNIDO global networks were discussed at a conference held in Moscow this week.

MANAMA, 30 June 2010 – Developing joint business and investment opportunities was the focus of a visit to Bahrain by an official delegation from Cote D’Ivoire, headed by the Minister of Industry and Private Sector Promotion, Moussa Dosso, that ended today.

It was organized with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and its Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Bahrain.

BAKU, 29 June 2010 – The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, said today that energy and environment remained a priority area of cooperation with Azerbaijan.
 
“While all three UNIDO thematic priorities are promoted in the region, energy and environment remains the priority thematic area,” said Yumkella who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
 

TOKYO, 16 June 2010 – The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, said today that technology transfer was a key element of global efforts related to energy efficiency and climate change mitigation and Japan could play a lead role in this respect.

MOSCOW, 15 June 2010 – UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella, called on Russian business to invest in Africa, and said that UNIDO was working with the Russian Federation on a range of technology transfer and capacity building projects, including in Africa.

KITAKYUSHU, Japan, 14 June 2010 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will help share the experience of the Japanese city of Kitakyushu in areas of environmental technology and waste recycling services with developing countries.

An agreement on this was signed today by UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella, and the Mayor of Kitakyushu, Kenji Kitahashi.  

COLOMBO, 11 June 2010 - The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, said today that even as a model developing country Sri Lanka still faces challenges in industrial and export growth.

“Sri Lanka is seen as a model developing country,” said Yumkella, who is on a three-day visit to the country.

DHAKA, 8 June 2010 - The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, said today that Bangladesh had the potential to become the metrology hub of South Asia.

“Bangladesh is growing rapidly, and global metrology and calibration standards could drive this process. It has the potential to become a metrology hub for South Asia,” said Yumkella, inaugurating the National Metrology Laboratory of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution.
