The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is significantly expanding its operations in Afghanistan with an expected service delivery flow of US $ 6 million per year.

VIENNA, 1 September 2009 - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management announced today a new Global Chemical Leasing Award.

The award is the first of its kind and aims to contribute to “greening” of industries, supporting sound management of chemicals and inspiring companies around the world to engage in effective chemical leasing practices.

VIENNA, 1 September 2009 - The African Union Commission has submitted to the European Union a proposal for a EUR 16 million project to develop geothermal energy resources in the East African Rift Valley.

The project will be implemented by UNIDO and include technical assistance, training, capacity building, public awareness and other activities in the countries concerned.

VIENNA, 28 August 2009 – The 30th anniversary of the Vienna International Centre (VIC), which is celebrated today, also marks 30 years of successful operations for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Vienna International Centre, and on behalf of UNIDO, I am most pleased to thank the city of Vienna and Austria for their hospitality over the last 30 years.

VIENNA, 7 August 2009 – With a broader cooperation programme with India, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is launching new industrial projects totaling nearly USD 9 million.

Agreements on this were signed today in Vienna by UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella, and the Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion of India, Ajay Shankar.
