The Sustainable Food Systems Division directly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by focusing on agro-industries development, strengthening and upgrading food agricultural value chains including:

  • the promotion of sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS)-related infrastructure to address food security and safety along the value chain;
  • building and strengthening capacities of institutions for providing regulatory oversite in the food systems supply chain;
  • transfer of technologies and best practices for the reduction of post-harvest losses and value addition for increased food security and to build resilience to climate change;
  • supporting interventions to improve competitiveness and productivity at the processing level, as well as strengthening linkages between small holder farmers, industry and markets.

UNIDO further fosters partnership with international financial institutions, private sector, research and academia and other UN organizations including private public and private partnership for development of the bioeconomy, development of rural infrastructure development such as sustainable and inclusive agro-industrial parks for promotion of resilient businesses.
