Industrial Development Board, 26th session

Strategic Guidelines: Towards improved UNIDO programme delivery

The twenty-sixth session of the Industrial Development Board, held in November 2002, adopted a set of Strategic Guidelines for UNIDO aimed at improving the Organization's programme delivery. The Strategic Guidelines, "Towards improved UNIDO programme delivery", initially proposed by Japan, were finalized over a period of several weeks through closely coordinated and concerted efforts of UNIDO Member States.

While the Business Plan on the Future Role and Functions of UNIDO, endorsed by the seventh session of the General Conference in 1997, remains the basis of UNIDO's organizational and programmatic transformation, this new document provides the Organization with guidelines to further focus its technical cooperation and global forum activities on producing practical and useful deliverables in areas where it has a comparative advantage. In particular, they are intended to point the way for the implementation of the medium-term programme framework for 2002-2005, the formulation of the medium-term programme framework for 2004-2007, and the preparation of the programme and budgets for 2004-2005.
